We hear with our brains. Hearing loss creates distortions within our auditory system that change how our brains hear. Properly fit hearing aids improve your brain’s access to the sounds of your world!

Those with hearing loss need more support. We need to retrain our brains how to hear again and make sense of the incoming auditory signals.
Auditory rehabilitation does this via communication strategies, tips, tricks and listening lessons.
The CogniHear Process
Your experience at our practice will be extraordinary, leaving you educated and empowered. As a CogniHear certified provider, we do things differently and look at both how the ears pickup sound and assess the auditory system as a whole, from your ears to your brain. We gather all of this during a functional hearing assessment. The additional information obtained during this appointment influences the audiologists’ specific recommendations for you, including:
- Type of hearing device recommendedÂ
- Optimal programing of hearing devices
- Realistic expectations and expected outcomes
- Additional support needed for successful real-world listening
- How family and friends can support your communication needs
Aural Rehabilitation Online
One-on-one auditory training is highly recommended for those facing challenges with auditory processing. However, for a more flexible, self-guided approach, online options are also available. One popular online platform we recommend is APDSupport.
Additionally, with the support of 5 Keys Communication, you’ll have access to valuable lessons, strategies and resources designed to enhance your communication skills.
APDSupport offers a 50-minute weekly course featuring activities like the Phonemic Training Program (PTP), Words in Noise Training (WINT), Short-Term Auditory Memory (STAM) and Phonemic Synthesis Program. The course is available for $149 with 6 months of access.
